Los Cabo is a Yacht Lover’s Paradise
Yacht lovers will delight in the crystal blue waters of the Sea of Cortez, characterized by oceanographer Jacques Cousteau as the ‘aquarium of the world’. Experience Los Cabos’ famous Arco (arch) at the tip of Southern Baja up close and personal and journey to stunning, uncrowded beaches onboard premier, luxury vessels. Yachts typically depart from IGY Marina or Marina del Rey, allowing for easy walking access to downtown Cabo San Lucas. Charters can be arranged on a full or half day basis, overnight, for journeys of multiple days, or simply for a few hours to enjoy sunset on the water. Regarded as two of Cabo’s best beaches, Santa Maria Beach and Chileno Bay are within 45 minutes by boat and offer excellent snorkeling and well as exquisite natural beauty . Additionally, departures can be organized from Marina Puerto Los Cabos, located in San Jose del Cabo, or from the East Cape area. Nearby, world class fishing can be found at Los Frailes and along the route to Cabo Palmas, several superb surfing spots are located.
For a truly remarkable Sea of Cortez yachting experience, aim to spend some time at La Paz to visit various nearby islands. La Paz is two hours by road from Los Cabos and there are several marinas within a half an hour’s drive from the main boardwalk in town, Marina La Paz, Marina Palmira, and Costa Baja. An hour on the water can then bring you to Playa Balandra, proclaimed as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Another hour’s journey can take you to the island of Espiritu Santo and its uninhabited white sand beaches. The turquoise waters surrounding Espiritu Santo are a protected area with limitations on fishing or motorized watercraft, but there’s excellent kayaking, paddle boarding, and at Los Isoltes on the northern tip of the island, the unique opportunity to swim with sea lions.
Other popular islands near La Paz include Cerralvo Island- a smart choice for diving, scuba, and snorkeling, hook-shaped San Francisco island, and San Jose, with the largest island mangrove system in Baja. Multi-day yacht charters are typically priced with a base rate that is solely for the use of the yacht itself. Additional provisions are calculated for fuel, food, drink, and any tour or excursion charges. Often termed an APA (Advanced Provisioning Allowance), this generally runs 30% of the yacht base costing and any portion of the allowance that is not used by guests is always returned. This allows your yachting crew to be prepared to take care of you in every way, regardless of any special circumstances that may occur. Chartering a yacht- whether for a day, a week, or even a few hours- opens up a world uniquely experienced from the water. It’s also the simplest way to include all your wishes and make the adventure of your dreams into a reality.
